ARIES Science Club | World Environment Day 2026

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June to promote awareness and encourage action for the protection of the environment. It serves as a global platform to inspire individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to environmental conservation.
On this occasion, the ARIES Science Club organized a series of activities to promote environmental awareness and encourage active community participation as part of the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations.
🗓️ Schedule of Activities
1. Cleanliness Drive
- Time: 9:00 AM
- Participants: ARIES Research Scholars and ARIES Science Club members.
- Core Activities:
- Cleaning of the road stretch from ARIES to Hanumangarhi Temple.
- Cleaning of the Hanumangarhi Temple premises.
- Cleaning of the public park near the temple.
- Awareness generation on maintaining clean and sustainable surroundings.
2. Main Programme
- Time: 11:00 AM
- Participants: Around 60 students from Classes IX–XII from nearby schools.
- Programme Highlights:
- Documentary Screening: An environmental documentary by Sir David Attenborough.
- Popular Talk: Delivered by the Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor of Kumaun University.
- Colloquium: Conducted by Prof. Yu Liya E.
- Discussions: Interactive sessions focused on environmental conservation, climate awareness, and sustainable development.
3. Photography Competition
- Theme: “Environment Through Camera Lens: Himalayas, Climate, and Community”
- Key Focus Areas:
- Encouraged participants to observe local environmental issues through photography.
- Highlighted the intricate relationship between the Himalayas, changing climate, and local communities.
- Promoted creative expression alongside environmental awareness.
4. Plantation Drive
- Time: Conclusion of the day’s programme
- Location: ARIES Campus
- Core Activities:
- Active participation from students, faculty members, and ARIES Science Club members.
- Plantation of approximately 25 saplings within the campus premises.
- Fostered a sense of environmental stewardship and sustainable practices among attendees.
